CRAZY HAppENINGS!!!!!! TOMODACHI 3?!??!?!?
I FEEL LIKE IT'S A JOKE OR A CRUEL pRANK!!!!! BUT IT'S NOT!!!!! TOMODACHI LIFE: LIVING THE DREAM IS REALLY COMING TO NINTENDO SWITCH!!!!!!!
mmf if you know me well enough you'll know, the tomodachi life series has been one of my favorite nintendo series for a long time (and id say mii games if counted as their own franchise are probably my second favorite to splatoon)...
i first played it on the 3ds after i got it for my birthday in 2015, which was almost 10 years ago now (god please don't make me think about that too hard), i'd seen it on a commercial and pretty much immediately knew i needed to have it xD
since then i've sunk probablyyy? 300-400hrs into tomodachi life across all my different save files? and i think 100-200hrs across my tomodachi collection save files (though i didn't play that for the fist time until about 3 years later in 2018.) it is kinda nothing compared to my hours playing the splatoon games but, it's still the game series i've played the 2nd most of LOL
hrm i'm thinking, how about before i give my thoughts on tomodachi life: living the dream (which i will be calling tomodream), i give my thoughts on the first two games (which hereinafter i'll refer to as tomocolle and tomolife respectively)?
tomocolle... i'd probably say personally, i like it a little better than tomolife, even though the latter is a pretty objective improvement over the former. what can i say, i am a sucker for first installment weirdness! and tomocolle has it in spades -- i've never played a game before or since that manages to have such a comforting yet somewhat unsettling atmosphere without even trying... i appreciate the feeling of watching low poly miis live in a low poly world and the soundtrack is phenomenal (i love sequenced music). plus all the little ways you can play with your miis that you can't so much in tomolife? like turning them around, patting them on the back and poking their face. i miss doing that i hope they bring it back in tomodream. i miss Let's Speak English! too but i know we would've never gotten that had it been localized anyway. xD
and tomolife of course i'd be remiss not to talk about because well... probably much like the vast majority of non-japanese tomodachi fans, i started with that one! and of course it was fucking fun or else i wouldn't be here typing an essay about how much this series means to me after a new one just got announced. xD it's an awesome game!!!! does so well at taking the foundation from tomocolle, building upon it and making improvements to existing mechanics (even if i'll never forgive them for not letting us poke our miis faces anymore)! the game wins for letting miis make babies as well, have had so much fun with those little abominations... (just let the rocking minigame be less annoying please...) they were crazy to let us just type whatever we wanted in the localized concert hall rather than giving us presets like in jp (i'd feel like the kr version would have presets as well but it's been years since i last picked up that ver so i dont remember)... i wonder if they'll just straight up let miis say fuck now like they do in miitopia xDDD
and!!! the star of today's blog post, tomodream!!! i'll start with cel-shaded miis, i absolutely LOVE that style for them, i've always felt like their shading should be more toony and they made it look stunning (although i appreciate the shiny wii and wii u versions as well)!!!! not just that but i noticed they seem to have their own houses now instead of living in mii apartments :o in that case i do wonder how marriage/moving into mii homes will be handled, maybe just like tomolife where they retain their own places but also have a new place to live at together? who knows!! xD
looking back and rewatching the trailer for more details i've just noticed miis have ears now... 0_0 that'll take some getting used to but i can't complain, i did always think some hairstyles looked a little strange without them!! xD also it seems like they're retaining the makeup and wigs system from miitopia as well, and i see they've FINALLY added more wigs which is awesome bc i loved them in miitopia but also there weren't enough of them LOL. it looks like they brought in the clothing customization from miitomo as well (looking at the clothing shop it seems to sell shirt & pants separately)!! i really do hope to see an expanded version of interior customization as well like what we got with miitomo :3
also totally thought the scene at the end was gonna be a love confession between the 2 girls and i was about to think DAMN they are bold for just putting gay people in the trailer as a feature... but nope, just a dream xDD i sitll think theres something going on between them tho idk idk...
raaaghh i am just so incredibly excited for this game... am slightly nervous because i immediately got new horizons vibes (i get vibes of a more animal crossingish game in general actually) and although i enjoyed new horizons (it was even my first animal crossing game) it doesn't retain the charm of the earlier installations i feel... i hope the same doesn't happen with this!!! but i have high hopes (i'd guess the dev teams are different anyway so it's an unfair comparison) and am grateful for a new tomodachi game AT ALL, it'd be even more awesome if this isn't the last one we get!!! thank you thank you thank you nintendo developers (NOT HIGHER UpS) i literally never thought this would happen ever...
